Rachael and Jane – first baby water birth in hospital

Oct 6, 2016

Here is a lovely calm Hypnobirthing water birth, first time parents. With permission to share from my clients :

My clients booked me very late in the pregnancy, and didn’t actually finish my 1:1 Hypnobirthing course ! They had already got the cd and book in advance though. However Hypnobirthing can work perfectly well at any stage and here is the proof…..

I was in a position to be able to attend their labour and birth. We got to the hospital around lunchtime ….after a while, the mother consented to an examination – she was 1-2cm’s but did not want to know how far/ how many centimetres. So her birth partner and I just told her how well she was doing and that all was brilliant and normal. 💜. Regarding knowing how dilated a woman is – This is something I ask all my clients to consider, if they consent to a vaginal examination (VE) …So she was oblivious to cm’s 😉.

Women’s cervixes DO NOT ALL DILATE AT 0.5cm per hour!!! The NHS are still using this system from the 1950’s to measure “progress” ….known as the Friedman’s curve….based on a few hundred women and very weak in terms of evidence.

Keeping the room dark, hypnobirthing cd playing, keeping the environment conducive to deep relaxation. The midwives on duty in the hospital were very respectful of birth preferences.

Within a couple of hours she seemed to be progressing well…based in body language, and signs that midwives just know that the labour is moving along… That she was probably getting to fully dilated… 😀

My client really got into her primal brain and hypnosis…..she followed all the Hypnobirthing anchors and prompts from her wonderful birth partner…..using light touch massage, short quiet and gentle words of support, where necessary, she never once asked for any pain relief, she breathed her baby down so calmly and gently.

Between us we maintained the calm and relaxed atmosphere, which is crucial in allowing hormones to work as they were intended to do. The mother slept between surges and I had to hold her head afloat in the pool, due to her being so relaxed 😀!!

She never once “pushed” either….she truly breathed her baby down into the water with what seemed like no effort whatsoever….her birth partner really was fantastic 😊.

My clients birth partner caught the baby underwater, with midwife support and passed their baby to mother. Teaching the birth partner hypnobirthing really pays off as they know their role, are not frightened and learn what to expect, so they can feel more prepared. Whoever attends your birth can have a massive effect on your labour and birth …so choose carefully!
