Hair AnalysisWhat is a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) test?

A Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis test looks at the individual’s minerals levels, as well as looking at toxic metals at a cellular level. Toxic metals can accumulate and contribute to many sources of ill health. Blood results give us some information but blood is homeostatic which means it will always work to keep nutrients “within range”. HTMA is a much more accurate screening tool for this than blood results alone, however when looked at together with HTMA results, with client medical history plus any physical, mental and emotional symptoms, it can be a revelation!

HTMA is not a “diagnostic” tool but a “screening” tool which reveals:

  • Metabolic rate
  • Stress ratio
  • Thyroid ratio
  • Adrenal ratio
  • Hormone ratio
  • Blood sugar ratio
  • Infection ratio

What does HTMA involve?

The hair sample test means taking just a few hairs from various places from the scalp, approximately one and a half inches in length, about a teaspoon in total. You do not need one big chunk from just one place! The hair sample to be analysed needs to have no chemical dye or perm on it from the root, at the time of cutting the sample. If the hair sample is dyed or chemically treated, it may give inaccurate results, and the same with permed hair at the root. Some anti-dandruff shampoos may affect some of the mineral results, as may taking an Epsom salt bath, so it is best to refrain from these for a few days before taking the hair sample. Some clients may need to wait a few weeks for their natural regrowth before taking a HTMA.

The HTMA test gives us 2-3 months insight into our individual mineral profile, depending on the length of hair sample sent. You will receive full instructions from the kit that I send out to you in the post, once you have ordered it and paid for the test.

We then make a mutually agreed appointment for your HTMA Analysis and Interpretation Consultation, within a month of you sending off your hair sample. Allow up to 2 hours for this appointment which I offer by Skype or Zoom. During this Consultation I will go through each mineral and toxic metal in detail with you, including the impact of their ratios and interactions with each other. I will explain how your results may be affecting your health or wellbeing. Following this I will make suggestions to you based on your individual biochemical mineral profile results.

Here is a quote from one of my very well respected Mineral and HTMA mentors Rick Fischer:

“The misconception is that by simply eating “healthy”, your body will be nutritionally balanced. This is not the way our bodies work however.  Everyone has mineral imbalances, it’s just a matter to what extent.  Often, those who believe they are living the healthiest seem to have the greatest imbalances. Even if you take a one-a-day multivitamin, this does not ensure that you are actually absorbing those minerals, nor are those nutrients customised for YOUR body. In fact, supplementing most vitamins can actually further deplete your minerals!”

Another Mineral and HTMA expert that I have had the privilege to study Minerals and HTMA with, is Dr Rick Malter (Ph.D) and I quote him here:

“We need to make a substantial change in our thinking about health/disease care if we are going to make some of the fundamental changes that will help more people prevent disease and maintain their health at a high level of functioning, including a strong immune system. A highly effective laboratory tool that would support a solid scientific approach to disease prevention and health maintenance is hair tissue mineral analysis.”

Dr. Robert Thompson, MD:

“ [HTMA] may be the most important health test that exists. Only when you and your doctor know for sure your mineral status and important ratios can you adapt your diet, minerals and supplements to work toward proper balance.”
