Laura and Ben – first baby, born in hospital

Apr 26, 2022

“Ben and I went on the Hypnobirthing course with Janet in early December 2021, and had over 4 months to practice everyday what we had learnt on the course.
We carried out the daily readings, positive affirmations, listened to the music and I would practice the breathing techniques. We were both calm and positive about the upcoming experience.
I had a very pleasant pregnancy with the baby positioned in the best position for a natural birth.

We had made our birth plan and were hoping to have the baby at the midwife led unit in Helme Chase, Kendal. I was due early March, but because I was over my due date (not that dates mean anything) by nearly 16 days, unfortunately Helme Chase couldn’t accommodate me, so we changed to our next option on the birth plan. We felt happy and comfortable with this. As long as the baby and myself were healthy and well that’s all that mattered.

I went for a relaxing session of Reflexology with Janet, and the following day when Ben returned home from work my surges started. The labour went on for quiet sometime but the Hypnobirthing techniques really helped me to remain calm and positive throughout the experience.
We ended up in Lancaster Maternity unit, which was originally our third option.

The care we received here was second to none, the midwives were amazing, many of whom had practiced Hypnobirthing with Janet and so understood our needs. It was the perfect place for us.
During the labour we realised that we would require some medical intervention for the birth of our baby boy as he had turned at some point so he was back to back with me, and each time I had a surge the baby’s heartbeat would drop and not recover to the baseline. But the breathing techniques, music and prompts enabled me to stay calm and focussed and for my partner Ben to act as my advocate.

Ben welcomed our son Ezra into the world and handed him to me and announced we had a baby boy. We were overwhelmed with relief and happiness that he had arrived safely.
The overall experience was perfect because we believed in what we had learnt, what we had planned for, even though the plan wasn’t quite as we had originally imagined and what we had been practicing.

Janet’s Hypnobirthing teaching was exceptional and we would highly recommend it to anybody.
It really was the best thing we invested our money in. Thank you Janet.

Best wishes
Laura, Ben and Ezra xx”
