“We practiced KGH (Katharine Graves) Hypnobirthing every day from 20 weeks and in doing so, has left me feeling empowered from such a positive birth experience.”
THE ROLE OF YOUR BIRTH PARTNER CANNOT BE UNDERESTIMATED, sadly so many birth partners do not know their role, (through no fault of their own, as society doesnt teach them!) They often feel afraid, some say they felt like a “spare part” and often they are full of adrenaline, adrenaline is contageous and is usually passed back to the woman! That is where Hypnobirthing can prepare not only the woman but the birth partner, to inform, empower and to support them to support their woman during the birth experience, wherever and however she gives birth 🤰👉 🤱🏼
Here, James is a shining example of being a wonderful advocate for Deven 🤩 Having a supportive health professional team, who respect and support birth preferences is also wonderful as well, shout out too 🙌 to the team at South Lakes Birth Centre 😍…read their birth story here 👇
At 42 weeks, we went into barrow, south lakes birth centre, for monitoring..not knowing we wouldn’t be coming home. The monitoring picked up that baby boy had quite an erratic heart rate and I had a urine infection. With this in mind and now being 42 weeks, we used our BRAIN nemonic and accepted an induction.
At 5:15pm, the propess (prostaglandin hormone to soften the cervix) was inserted. This is the only “intervention” I had and went into labour off only this. By 2:30am I was having regular, very manageable surges, which I breathed through and found myself most comfy leaning over the back of the bed.
By 7:45am, (although not in “established” labour) they moved me to a pool room to which I was able to get straight in. We had dim twinkly lights, my labour playlist, aromatherapy and all the midwives read and respected our birth preferences.
I breathed through each surge (with some occasional gas and air ) rested and smacked inbetween.. for around 3 hours.
At some point surges ramped up and I was having 3 back to back with little rest, causing me to be sick, so I accepted to get out the pool (around 11:10am) for an examination.
With very positive feedback I was 4-5cm with a very stretchy cervix, at this point I had a wobble and asked for pain relief, little did I know i was in transition? How could I be at only 4cm?
However my waters broke with a big pop/ gush and the next thing my body was uncontrollably pushing! I was on all fours and followed my urges and thank fully slowed my breathing down (supported by the midwives) when it came to actual delivery – leaving me tear free!
He was born just 10-15 minutes after being told I was 4cm. Fair to say this was very INTENSE.
11:34am on 17th February, Elliot Peter Scott arrived perfectly into this world.
The following 2 hours passed with immediate skin to skin, optimal cord clamping, a quick delivery of the placenta and a latch with a good breastfeed.
I couldn’t have done it without James, my keeper of the cave, getting me through each surge one at a time, making sure our birth preferences were always honoured and offering me the support physically and emotionally. He was AMAZING, and I felt like the whole birth was a team effort.
This was Deven and James’s second positive Hypnobirth. They took the full 12 Hypnobirthing course with their first pregnancy and came back for more with this baby for a Hypnobirthing “Refresher” top up and a reminder, well you cant get too much Hypnobirthing practice in! 😍
