Lets talk about pre natal vitamins/ vitamins to help fertility, pregnancy vitamins…..🤔
I am a great believer in the fact that one size doesn’t fit all, EVER ! We are all individuals, different shapes, sizes, BMI’s, with different diets, different metabolisms, different ethnicities, backgrounds etc etc….and yet when it comes to multivitamins, why is it that the dosage seems to be the same for EVERYONE ?
Firstly, should we be considering if we are deficient in certain vitamins and minerals in the first place?
Secondly, taking more of something is not always a healthy option….
Thirdly, many multi vitamins, or supplements are synthetic, which can interfere the with absorption and transportation of our natural vitamins and minerals that we receive from our food intake….
For example, Vitamin C in the form of “ascorbic acid” (rather than food state) is a synthetic form, which may interfere with copper absorption, for more info see here: http://gotmag.org/ascorbic-acid-causes-copper-deficiency-huh/
Folic acid is a sythetic form of folate, folate is natural. Always start with diet in the first place: https://draxe.com/top-10-vitamin-b9-folate-foods/
Many supplements have added iron and calcium, which is a whole new ball game….A topic on its own!
Many women and men are low in magnesium, folate, B12 when wanting to conceive…..but it isnt just as simple as buying a supplement off the high street shelf. You can never look at one deficiency alone, the whole body is connected and each metabolic function has a knock on effect on another. The body needs to be in balance, “Balance” being the key word….not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Also the “quality” of supplements varies tremendously.
So I am certainly not saying, do not take supplements in the prenatal period or during pregnancy, what I am saying is do some research yourself and I would suggest that you always consult a appropriately qualified nutritionalist or therapist that knows about these things in great detail, who will look at you as an individual, who will look at you holistically, and who will probably suggest that you have some blood test or hair mineral analysis tests as a starter….💜
