“Hi Janet, weren’t sure where to post this so here is my hypnobirthing testimonial . Our positive birth story:Myself and Dean attended Janet’s Hypnobirthing course when I was 34 weeks pregnant. I wanted to attend due to anxiety of giving birth and wanted to feel more informed in the process.
Having finished the course, me and Dean had decided we would like to have a home birth as our first option on our birth plan. We practiced every night with positive birth affirmations and meditation, reading the KGhypnobirthing book too.
Our birth plan didn’t quite work out with the hospital being on divert due to staffing issues and we ended up being diverted to Lancaster when I was contracting around 60 seconds, 2 minutes apart.
(Birth Centre) Helme Chase were unable to take us due to my baby showing big on growth scans.
I listened to calming music the whole way there to keep calm and encourage positive birthing hormones. My labour ended up requiring intervention (use of forceps, episiotomy and oxytocin drip) after 37 hours of labour. Due to attending Janet’s course I was able to labour up to over 18 hours with no pain relief, make an informed choice to agree to intervention after 30 hours in labour and still have a very positive birth experience.
Throughout me getting Pre eclampsia during labour, my waters having meconium in and my bladder becoming blocked due to position of my baby, my babies heart rate remained stable the whole time due to the relaxed state I was in throughout, putting everything into practice that I had learnt on Janet’s course.
Midwives commented how relaxed I was and were astounded at my ability to remain ‘in the zone’ even saying it was like treating a patient with an epidural the whole time!
I managed to push my baby so far that I did not require c section, although her shoulder got stuck, so I did require forceps in the end.
Due to everything I had learnt, I knew my options and the option to not do anything, I used that option a lot! Dean was honestly the best birthing partner I could have asked for as he was very hands on and involved during the labour. He was able to help me make decisions and step in when required to decline / delay intervention using information we had learnt via the course. It enabled Dean to be as involved as possible while I birthed our daughter.
Our daughter was born a very healthy 9lbs 11 and was very calm when born. I honestly feel if I had not attended Janet’s course my birth story would have been somewhat different and we can’t thank Janet enough!”
Janet’s words: Sometimes nature needs a hand of course, and for me, what I see with hypnobirthing is, even when there is a deviation to the “plan”; the Hypnobirthing tools and techniques learnt on the course can be even more invaluable. When informed decisions have been made, this can dramatically affect the parents feelings around the birth.
