Natalie and Guy, 2nd Hypnobirth

Positive Hypnobirth Story, 2nd Hypnobirth ❤️ My words are in brackets “Hi Janet, how are you? Hope you’re well! I wanted to send you a message to let you know that baby Magnus joined us on Saturday. He is gorgeous and healthy, we are over the moon!

It wasn’t the homebirth we had hoped for due to a midwife shortage at Helme Chase on Friday night (nobody was on call), so we went to Lancaster instead. We arrived at hospital at around 1:30am on Saturday and they showed us to a room with huge pool in the middle of it…I was anxious about going there but seeing the pool made me feel better. (My clients did a full 12 hour KGH Hypnobirthing Course with me with their first baby, and gave birth, quickly, at home and they were hoping to do the same this time. They booked a Hypnobirthing “Refresher” Session with me on zoom in this pregnancy).

After a quiet welcome, a few questions and some conversation about the fact we were hypnobirthing Jo the midwife instantly switched how she spoke to us, started to fill the pool, dimmed the lights and put on some fake candles. Guy gave her our birth plan and I got in the pool at about 2am, Jo sat in the corner of the room. I was left in complete peace which was lovely! My surges increased in power pretty quickly and before I knew it his head suddenly appeared, Magnus officially arrived at 3:10am. We waited a fairly long time before cutting the cord and the placenta appeared quite soon after that. It was all very special and, importantly, natural!

You equipping us so well (again) meant that Guy did everything I needed….soft touch massage, spoke to the midwife for me, made decisions about when we drove to hospital etc and helped me a lot with my breathing. I used the words ‘release’ & ‘soften’ when my surges became more intense, upward breathing through most of Friday evening, downward breathing after his head appeared (I hadn’t really worked out with Molly when I was meant to use this but with Magnus I was able to consciously change when I felt it was the right time) & downward breathing to birth the placenta too, I kept picturing the rose which was very effective in focussing myself on the birth if I started to get distracted by the drive, hospital noises etc. and because you’d given me the confidence and knowledge about birthing my baby naturally I didn’t feel the need to know anything about the position of baby, cm’s dilated, progress, pain relief options…or anything at all….none of that stuff even crossed my mind. (Demonstrating the importance of the value of a well prepared birth partner and advocate)

I’d just like to say a huge, huge thank you to you again, from all of us! We have had the best start to our next family adventure with our 4th member joining us. We will also be thanking Jo at Lancaster as she did such a great job of replicating our homebirth in the hospital….if you know her please do tell her we raved about her too 😃 (Big shout out to the midwife Jo for her care and support)

Why is hypnobirthing not introduced as an option to every pregnant woman?!! ( Yes I 100% agree and especially in the medical model of birthing, when sadly so many are making uninfomed choices)

I’m so glad that you’ve trained more midwives it really really made such a huge difference to me and will to many others too. ,(I trained 9 midwives locally, this year, in KGH Hypnobirthing with more midwives in the pipeline!)

Absolutely fine for you to share our birth story, no need to hide any details either. I hope more and families become aware of hypnobirthing…I’ll certainly be suggesting to friends that they consider the techniques/toolkit. Best Wishes , Natalie and Guy”
